What is e-Learning?
AKA: eLearning, e-learning, e-Learning, multimedia learning, technology-enhanced learning (TEL), technology-enhanced learning (TEL), computer-based instruction (CBI), computer-based training (CBT), computer-assisted instruction or computer-aided instruction (CAI), internet-based training (IBT), web-based training (WBT), online education, virtual education, virtual learning environments (VLE), m-learning, and digital educational collaboration.
We have all heard the buzz words, been told it’s “the future of training”, have a feeling it is what we should be doing, but has anyone actually explained why we should be doing it?
Let’s face it, Health and Safety although important is very rarely top of most people’s to do list; it is for this reason we need to make it as hassle free, quick and simple as possible.
E-Learning allows this compliance and health and safety training to be completed around other commitments, at any time of day and in all kinds of weird and wonderful environments, even in the middle of the North Sea; one of our courses is floating around out there right now!

Let’s start at the beginning to explain what is e-Learning?

E-Learning can mean different things to different people but what it essentially boils down to is using technology to gain skills or knowledge.  We are being quite broad by using the term technology here because the training provided by Safety Media can be completed using any internet enabled device including computers, iPads and even your smart phone.

E-Learning can be done alone or be instructor led and includes engagement with the learner in the form of text, images, animation, video, audio or a combination of all of them.

So, now we know what it is, let’s take a look at why it is deemed to be the future of learning.

There are many benefits associated with e-Learning – here are our top 5:

» Cost Efficient

You can train multiple people in multiple locations simultaneously without the need for travel, accommodation and location costs – added to the cost of hiring external trainers, taking long periods away from everyday tasks and business disruption the financial savings that can be achieved from e-Learning are huge.

» Fast Delivery

Most courses provided in our standard library take between 25 and 35 minutes each to complete.  This means that in a relatively short period of time employees and contractors can be achieving your health and safety training standards enabling normal work to be resumed quickly.

» Consistent Training

By choosing e-Learning you can be sure your employees all receive the exact same content, delivery style and a consistent safety message. There is no deviation from the topic, extended discussions and varying interpretations of material as everyone will receive the exact same course.

» Self-Paced

E-Learning courses can be completed around work schedules at a time convenient to the learner.  They can be started and, importantly, stopped as required and progress will be saved.  This allows for training to be flexible and not hinder crucial business activities.  The self-paced nature of our courses also allows each individual to learn at their own speed without fear of ridicule or frustration ensuring maximum levels of knowledge comprehension and retention.

» Automated reporting

We have saved the most crucial benefit to e-Learning for last. As an e-Learning administrator you will have access to instant and accurate reports about what training has been completed, results achieved, training outstanding and, in our case, even robust Critical Risk Management information.  You will be able to prove and report upon competency and training in desired courses, which can be critical in a business environment. Never again will you have to chase up records, keep paper files or lose sleep over lost reports. Should the need arise all reports are accessible 24-7 at the touch of a button.

So why choose Safety Media e-Learning?

Hopefully now you are beginning to see what all of the fuss is about so let’s take a closer look at why Safety Media e-Learning is the one for you.

The Safety Media library of Health, Safety and Compliance online training courses has over 100 titles and consists of video, interactive and refresher modules.  A massive 78 of our Health and Safety titles have been approved by RoSPA.

Titles in our libraries include: Fire Safety, DSE, Lift Truck & Warehouse Safety, Teamwork, Driving Safety, PPE, Sustainable Development and Manual Handling. You are able to train your entire workforce with just one system by creating departments and assigning relevant courses to learners.

On top of this our courses are CPD certified and most titles currently hold ROSPA accreditation with more on the way very soon.  With these stamps of approval you can be sure the courses you are providing to your staff are of the highest quality available on the market.

The Learning Management System and all of our courses are built and maintained by our UK based in-house team.  This allows us to be responsive to clients’ needs and ensure not only our content but our system is constantly evolving to provide the best possible user experience.

Our library and system is maintained so regularly that sometimes it is hard to keep up with the changes!  In fact a recent review in HSW Magazine said:

“You have to hand it to Safety Media.  Over the years, it has continuously extended its range of training making its catalogue one of the broadest in the market.  The quality is often excellent; it has experimented with new approaches to learning and rigorously replaces old and out-of-date material with new and better.”

As part of our commitment to “experimenting with new approaches to learning” we have also recently re-written all of our courses so that they are now available in HTML5 or Flash versions – what this means is that no matter what device you want to run your training on we can provide the right course for your needs.

So with all this in mind, not forgetting all of these other benefits such as: Automated Certificates upon completion, No Human Error, Secure Back Ups of Data, Ideal for multi-shift / multi-location set ups, Reduced Carbon footprint, Paperless LMS, Simple Set Up, 24/7 Access), the only question you should really be left with is – can you afford NOT to choose e-Learning for your business?

We are here to help make training SIMPLE!
